Though temperature has dropped, the fever refuses to subside
Even with the onset of winters, a large number of people are falling prey to dengue in the city. The vector-borne disease has affected 24 more people in the last one day. With this, the number of dengue cases reported in different hospitals this year has reached 667.
"Another 24 people have tested positive for dengue in the last 24 hours. Dengue cases generally start subsiding with the onset of winters, the trend is now changing. More and more hospitals are reporting dengue cases.
From an average of 10 cases per day, we are now getting over 20 cases per day," said V K Monga, health committee chairman, MCD.
Meanwhile, doctors are hoping that the number would drop in the coming month and people will get some respite from the disease.
"A total of 667 people have been diagnosed with the fever till now. We hope that by mid-November, the number of cases will come down, as the aedes mosquito breeds in warm weather and dies during winters," said Monga.
The first case of dengue was reported in March this year. Four deaths due to dengue haemorrhagic fever have been reported in the city so far, the last being on October 13. "People should take precautions and take steps to check mosquito breeding, as cases of Chikungunya and Japanese Encephalitis are also being reported in the Capital," he added.
