Delhi serial blasts suspect wants to write exams

A suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist held for his involvement in the Sep 13 Delhi serial blasts Wednesday sought bail from the Delhi High Court to appear in his final semester MBA exam.

Saquib Nisar, in custody since Sep 20, stated his examinations were scheduled to start July 18.

The court had earlier refused to grant him interim bail when he was to appear in the fifth semester exam and had allowed him to write his paper from jail.

Justice Geeta Mittal issued notice to Delhi Police and asked them to respond by July 13, when the case will next be heard.

The police have already filed a charge sheet against Saquib Nissar and four other accused - Mohd Saif, Zeeshan Ahmed, Zia-ur Rehman and Mohd Shakeel - for their alleged role in the Delhi serial blasts.

They have been accused of murder, attempt to murder and waging war against the nation, amongst other offences, under the Indian Penal Code, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the Explosive Substances Act.

According to police, all the accused in the Delhi blasts case were also involved in similar serial blasts in Jaipur and Ahmedabad.

They had visited Ahmedabad before the July 26 blasts under fake names, which came to light during the investigations and was later confirmed by examining the railway tickets and reservation chart, the police said in the charge sheet.
