The varsity will not provide extension for admissions under any circumstances

If you seek admission at one of the Delhi University colleges this year and are planning to give the long queues a miss by turning up late, think again. The Delhi University, which is set to usher in the semester system, will not provide extensions for admissions under any circumstances from this academic year. In previous years, delayed admission was possible till October 14. This year though the process should be completed by July 31.

The new decision has been taken keeping in mind the basic objective of the semester system.
S K Vij, Dean, students' welfare at DU, said, "In case we keep our admission process open till mid-October, those admitted late will miss almost one semester. Moreover their attendance will also be affected. So we have planned to change this rule. Under no circumstances, will any student be admitted after July 31."

Even the seats reserved under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category that remain vacant will have to be filled by the same date by general students.

"The college will also have to fill seats according to the new regulations. Generally the students admitted in the science stream leave in the middle and move to engineering or medical. So they need to increase their intake capacity so that none of their seats remain vacant," said Vij.u00a0u00a0

Till last year, students could get admission in the colleges by getting special permission from the standing committee and the Vice-Chancellor of the university.

With the semester system in place, Delhi University also plans to start its admission process as early as May and pack its paraphernalia before August. A final decision on the dates is still awaited, though the admission process and sale of forms are scheduled to begin in a couple of months.
