The Dalit Panther workers were reportedly disappointed with the Congress for not keeping its promise of giving it three seats in the city for the civic polls slated for February 16.
Earlier, Dalit Panther chief Namdev Dhasal had announced an alliance with the Congress for the elections in the city, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Solapur, and had demanded three seats in the city.u00a0
Chavan, who inaugurated the Congress campaign, did mention Dhasal's name as one of the dignitaries at the event in his keynote speech.u00a0Chavan said, "The party with which we are having an alliance at the Centre and in the state is our competitor in the city for the upcoming election. Therefore it has become necessary for us to convey the ideology of Congress to the voters, and the various development works the party has done in the city."u00a0
He added that the Congress was committed to bringing the Metro to the city. Congress state chief Manikrao Thakre, Forest Minister Patangrao Kadam and Cooperation Minister Harshawardhan Patil were present at the event.
