Priya Krishna's father M Krishnappa, MLA from Vijaynagar, also plans to provide a similar health cover to people in his constituency.
"I will provide health insurance policies to residents in my constituency. All costs will be borne by me. This is my first priority," said Krishna. "Once I am through with this, I will concentrate on developing my constituency."
The massive initiative is said to have already begun.
Bharath TG, a Krishna supporter, said, "We are doing the spadework. The database of families in the constituency is being prepared. One thousand such (insurance) cards will be distributed to begin with."
The insurance cards will be valid for a year and can be used in hospitals listed by the insurance company.
Krishna's followers said the hospitals on the list would include the well known Wockhardt and Manipal hospitals as well.
Citizens in the constituency seemed happy with the idea. "It is a good idea that will help the poor if it reaches every household. I only hope the MLA delivers what he is promising," said Nagarathna S, a resident of Govindrajnagar.
