There are few places on the planet that can live up to the promise of chocolate. Johnny Depp is only part of that reason. Hawking the sexiest rumoured aphrodisiac (come on, oysters? Celery? Seriously!) might be a smart business proposition, but a tough one to see through. But then again, who's paying attention? As luck would have it, we were.

It took us a little asking around to locate Fudge N Chocolate, which is located a little further down the road from The Bagel Shop. It's a pretty space, but far too clinical for a place selling something so closely associated with lust. We hoped for warmer tones and dimmer lights.

When we were done pointing, we headed home, armed with our chocolate treasure, and ready to make the most of our loot. From the flavours we tried (Rs 160 for 100 gm, each), the Irish Cream and Apricot truffles were pleasant, allowing a break between the cloying sweetness of the milk chocolate base.

Having said that, the flavour of the Irish Cream and the chunks of apricot are ensconced in what distinctly looks (and tastes) like white chocolate paste. Gag! The Fig 'n' Honey chocolates were good, but only if you don't fancy the idea of fig seeds sitting inside chocolate.

The Hazelnut Fudge (Rs 120 for 100 gm) bordered on too-sweet, and was not fudge-y enough for us to delightedly sink our spoons into.

Sold on this?
If deep, dark and intense are words you look to chocolate to fulfill however, expect to be disappointed. While Fudge N Chocolate offers some interesting flavours (Fig 'n' Honey, Irish Cream, Black Forest), what ultimately lets them down is the quality of the chocolate itself. It's too sweet and has a flavour that clings tou00a0-- instead of lingeringu00a0-- on the tongue. We just wish they'd bought into the fantasy, before trying to sell it to us.

Fudge N Chocolate didn't know we were there. THE GUIDE reviews anonymously and pays for its meals (and chocolates!).
