IAS officer's driver caught red-handed

Carjacking is common in Delhi. And even the seemingly secure locations are not safe, especially when an insider is involved. The driver of an economic adviser to the ministry of Woman and Child Development has been arrested for allegedly trying to steal the vehicle belonging to the deputy director of corporate affairs ministry.

The incident took place inside the premises of Shastri Bhavan in Parliament Street area of New Delhi.


A senior police officer said that the accused driver, identified as Kirti Singh, was caught red- handed when he broke the lock of the car belonging to Vinod Sharma, a corporate affairs ministry official. Police said they registered a case in this respect on September 17.




The officer said that Sharma parks his car between gate number 2 and 3 inside Shastri Bhavan premises. According to Sharma, Kirti was removing his car's stereo when he reached there. He called the CISF personnel who apprehended the accused.

"Kirti Singh is the driver of Sangeet Verma who is economic adviser of ministry of woman and child development. We are checking his previous records and we are sure that he has some criminal antecedents," said the police officer.

Parliament Street police said further investigations are on into the matter.

Burgled

Two LCD monitors were stolenu00a0 on August 13 from the office of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), Ministry of Labour and Employment. The office is located on the fifth floor of Shram Shakti Bhawan, which is in a high security zone of New Delhi district. "The computers were stolen from room number 505 and 506. We were surprised to know that the thief reached the fifth floor of the building. An FIR was filed at the Parliament Street police station," said a senior police officer.
