Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a speeding car that hit an elderly pedestrian in Telangana on Saturday continued to travel for nearly five kilometres with the body on its roof.

The incident occurred on Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway in Telangana's Nalgonda district, police said.

The speeding car knocked down the 65-year-old man near Katangur when he was crossing the road. Such was the impact that the man flung into air and fell on top of the vehicle.

Instead of stopping the car, the driver sped away. Some people, who noticed the body on the vehicle, forced it to stop near Aitipamula, about five kilometres from the accident site.

The driver said he did not realize that the man flung on to the vehicle. Police arrested the driver and another person sitting in the car, which was on its way from Hyderabad to Vijayawada.
