New Delhi: A series of PCR calls claiming that a Delhi Police constable had hung himself from a tree near Mandir Marg police station in the heart of the national capital this evening sent the entire department into a tizzy.

A frantic search operation was launched in the forested area behind the police station soon after the first call was received at around 4:22 P.M.

But no body was found till 10:30 P.M. after six hours of an extensive search by several teams, leading the police to suspect that they had received a hoax call.

"The constable in question is Sujan Singh Meena, posted at 3rd battalion. He lives in the Mandir Marg area. The first call was received at 4.22 P.M. and we got four calls in total," said a senior police official.
Police officials said that the constable's behaviour has been erratic of late.

"We will not consider the call hoax until the constable is found. It could well be a case where he himself made the call.

"We are trying to trace both the constable and the number from which the call was made," he added.

As the first call was received, senior officials scrambled to look into the matter and launched a multi-pronged search operation.
