Brinjal festival to protect native varieties

Different varieties of the brinjal, grown in rural areas, were displayed at the Brinjal Festival at Lalbagh yesterday. The festival was organised to create awareness on indigenous brinjal varieties and drive home the message that genetically-modified brinjal would eat away the rich brinjal diversity.
More than 50 varieties of brinjal grown in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala and Andhra Pradesh were on display at the festival.
Various dishes made from brinjal and the recipes for the dishes were also on display.
