A real estate agent by profession, Tanna was arrested by officials of the Crime Branch for making a hoax call about a bomb at Scinidia House in Ballard Estate on July 26 to disrupt the auctioning of that flat by the Debt Recovery Tribunal he intended to buy for cheap.

The building houses several important government offices, including that of the Income Tax Department.

Empty-handed
“The MRA Marg police station was informed about the caller following which its officials informed the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and the dog squad. We were asked vacate the building and the search for the bomb began. Despite searching every nook and corner of the building for three hours, the officials found nothing. The entire day’s work got disrupted,” an official from the Income Tax Department said.

Call tracing
The police suspected that it was a hoax call and started tracing the number from which the call was made. Investigation helped them zero in on Tanna, a resident of Charkop in Kandivli.

They arrested him and during interrogation he revealed he wanted to buy the flat from the tribunal.

Copspeak
Subhash Sawant, senior inspector of Crime Branch (Unit 11) said, “The debt tribunal was supposed to auction the flat on July 26. A nationalised bank had sealed the flat after its owner failed to repay the loan. Tanna realised that he could buy the flat for cheap and made the call to disrupt the auction so that nobody else gets the opportunity to bid for the property.”u00a0
