Bihar result no 'excuse' to block Winter Session: Government warns Opposition

New Delhi: Asserting that the verdict of the Bihar Assembly polls reflect the aspirations of the people of the state and not of the nation, the Centre yesterday reminded the Opposition that the victory of the Mahagathbandhan could not be used as ammunition to ‘obstruct’ the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.

Talking to the media after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA), Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said the BJP respects the verdict of the people of Bihar.

“We will do a detailed analysis of the outcome, but all concerned need to understand that the Bihar verdict needs to be taken in the right perspective. To interpret the result as a mandate to disrupt Parliament is questioning the wisdom of people of the state,” he added.

Naidu asserted that it was wrong to say the Bihar results reflected the country’s mood as polls were held only in one state while adding that the Opposition won as the ‘social arithmetic’ dynamics were in their favour.

“The verdict is a clear statement of Bihar’s aspirations, as their development and that of India are inter-linked and mutually re-enforcing. People of Bihar also want development like any other state and have given their mandate to Nitish, but it is to be understood that the mandate is for their aspirations and not for the Parliament,” Naidu said.
