A week after MiD DAY reported how a dead inspector had been promoted to ACP, the Mumbai police department slipped up to record another faux pas. In the latest botch up by the force’s administration, a police inspector from Bhandup police station was transferred to the same police station. Inspector Dilip Kumar Rajbhoj has been deployed with the Bhandup police for the last five years. He has already exceeded his tenure of three years at the police station.

A source from the force said, “Rajbhoj has been asking the senior bosses to transfer him to a police station in Thane district but his appeal has been rejected. While he was supposed to have left the police station after this transfer, he got transferred to the police station where he is already stationed.” Rajbhoj had come to Bhandup police station from Thane. According to MiD DAY’s sources, the inspector has been requesting higher officials to transfer him to a police station in Thane since he still resides there with his family.
The Bhandup police station has a critical dearth of senior officials which is why low ranking officers such as sub-inspectors and assistant inspectors have been made in-charge of the police station during odd hours. Upset with the orders, Rajbhoj has now applied to the higher authorities once again. He had reportedly gone on leave, confirmed senior police inspector S Nadgauda of Bhandup police station. This is, of course, not the first time the police administration has blundered with the postings. MiD DAY had, on June 5, reported how a dead police inspector was transferred and given a promotion.
Anand Gawde, a Mumbai Crime Branch officer, had died after he met with an accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in 2011. But he was promoted and shifted to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), as per the list announcing transfers released by the department less than two weeks ago. In another case, a senior inspector was appointed at Mulund police station without the transfer of the incumbent officer holding charge there. As a result, the police station had two senior inspectors at a time. Mumbai Police spokesperson Satyanarayan Chaudhary remained unavailable for comment.u00a0
