Police slap Goonda act on Ravichandran alias Kata Ravi for the safety of the public

Prevention is better than cure is what the police decided when it came to a notorious criminal with a long list of cases to his name. In order to stop repeat offender Ravichandran alias Kata Ravi from leaving prison, the police have slapped a Goonda act against him to prevent him from getting bail.

For the greater good: Kata Ravi has 14 criminal cases pending
against him. Though he is currently housed in Central Jail, it is believed
that he continues to operate his illegal activities remotely.

Ravi began his criminal activities in 1991 with an attempt to murder case in Mahalakshmi Layout Police limits and continued with several more crimes and has been arrested on several occasions. Ravi who is presently under judicial custody has been detained under the provisions of the Karnataka prevention of dangerous activities of bootleggers, drug offenders, gamblers, goondas, immoral traffic offenders and slum grabbers Act, 1985, Mahalakshmi Layout inspector, HR Anil Kumar said.

He has been declared a rowdy sheeter by Mahalakshmi Layout police and presently has 14 criminal cases pending against him. Though he is currently housed in Central Jail, it is believed that he continues to operate his illegal activities remotely.

"No amount of action under the law in existence has so far succeeded in deterring him from indulging in serious crimes against the innocent public," said police commissioner Shankar Bidari.

"DCP, West, SN Siddaramappa has submitted the report to detain Ravi under the Goonda Act. Police inspector, Mahalakshmi Layout police station served the said order at the Central Jail yesterday in order to maintain peace and order and largely for the safety of the public," Bidari said.

Recently, the police learned that Ravi has applied for bail and decided that it would not be safe to allow him to have his freedom since he would create a law and order situation. "The police chief has taken this move keeping in mind the heinous crimes that Ravi has committed," said Siddaramappa.
