In an attempt to provide relief to commuters, the government and traffic police are studying the possibilities of turning the traffic-prone junction into one-way
If things go as planned, commuters stuck at South Mumbai’s busiest traffic junctions might get some relief. The state government and the traffic police are contemplating to make Babulnath road a one-way road so as to avoid bottlenecks and jams and have even started studying its possibilities.

The move was discussed at a recent meeting of the Empowered Committee, headed by Chief Secretary Jayant K Banthia. Bombay First -- a group comprising of people aiming to transform the city into a world-class hub -- made the presentation suggesting ways to get rid of the bottlenecks at the busy junction.
As per the plans, the government is considering creating a one-way traffic at the triangle consisting of SC Bose Road (Marine Drive)-Walkeshwar-Babulnath Road. Elaborating on plans, sources said that traffic coming from Walkeshwar, wishing to go to Churchgate would go straight towards Babulnath Road and then a right on S Patkar Marg (Hughes Road). They will then keep going straight and take a right on SVP road and come out onto Marine Drive.
Meanwhile, the northbound traffic from Marine Drive would have to take a left to Walkeshwar and then turn right for Babulnath. This would mean that the vehicles from Babulnath from north would be barred to take a left onto the Marine Drive (near Wilson College).
“Presently, there is tremendous vehicular congestion on this road, especially during peak hours,” said an official who attended the meeting.
The officials claim that if they make it a one-way then there would be sufficient space for vehicles plying, though issue of parking on road needs to be taken care of by the traffic police.

The scope of regulating traffic on the north of Marine Drive near Walkeshwar is being looked at. It will be working like a loop with one way similar to the one existing at Haji Ali and Siddhivinayak junctions. It might make the traffic movement faster and smoother.
