Party top brass wants designated spaces for different district units during its anti-corruption rally at Talkatora Stadium on Thursday to monitor performance of workers
It seems the BJP in Delhi has become wary of the extended run of the Sheila Dikshit-led Congress government in the Capital. In an attempt to pull up its socks, the right-wing party has now decided to put the performance of its workers under scrutiny. The top brass has reportedly directed its rally managers to arrange separate spaces for different district units at the Talkatora Stadium on Thursday, for the party's campaign against corruption. This in an effort to establish, which worker brought in how many people to attend the rally.

Senior BJP leaders Lal Krishna Advani, Ananth Kumar and Venkaiah Naidu along with city leaders Vijender Gupta and VK Malhotra are expected to be part of Thursday's rally. The state has had a Congress government for about 13 years now. Since the time Vijender Gupta took over as city BJP head in 2010, there has been a large number of dharna's and political rallies of BJP in Delhi. Gupta has taken a tough stand on various issues including corruption in Commonwealth Games, inflation and various other local issues which have made impact on the city.u00a0 "However, as number of political rallies and dharna's have increased, presence of workers in rallies is falling now," admitted a senior BJP leader.
Numbers game
Sources in city BJP said, district leaders have been asked to bring in around 700 people each from their respective districts while councillors have been asked to bring 30 persons each. "The stadium can accommodate around 2500 people.u00a0 The numbers have been kept high to account for some leaders failing to meet the targets," said a senior BJP leader.
'Not true'
However, when contacted, Vijender Gupta denied any such specific instructions have been issued. "We have not even asked the workers to come in buses. Those who want to come will come on their own. We want dedicated workers in our rallies, not ones that can be bought," he said. "We have seen an overwhelming response in the past as well and I expect more than ten thousand people to come for Thursday's rally," he added.
Tough stance
BJP councillor Narender Bindal was suspended on June 19 from the party after Lokayukta indicted him for releasing pension only to those who subscribed to a particular magazine. Bindal, who represents Guru Harkishan Nagar ward of the MCD west zone, was forwarding pension to only those who took annual subscription of a magazine for Rs 1,100. The suspension was announced by Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta. "The case of Bindal has been forwarded to the Discipline Committee for appropriate action. The committee will enquire into all the aspects of the case and submit its recommendation to me. Further action will be taken accordingly," Gupta said. Indicting Bindal, the Lokayukta has recommended that it should be publicised by displaying of notices in his area.
