Tarun Vijay accuses UPA govt of being insensitive towards defence issues

BJP MP demands inquiry into former Navy chief's resignation

BJP’s national spokesperson and MP Tarun Vijay demanded a high-level parliamentary committee to have an inquiry into the resignation of former Navy chief Admiral Devender Kumar Joshi owing to the INS Sindhuratna and other submarine accidents.

While addressing the media yesterday, Vijay said that the present UPA government is insensitive towards defence issues and instead of former Navy Chief, Defence Minister AK Antony and Defence Secretary RK Mathur should have put in their papers.

“Joshi during his tenure as chief had intimated the defence ministry that the batteries of submarine were damaged. However, the ministry delayed the navy’s most urgent procurement,” said Vijay.

He added that the lethargic attitude of defence ministry was responsible for the mishap however, instead of taking responsibility for it; the ministry has compelled Joshi to resign.
