But along with this, came another interesting announcement.

The expansion plan will commence in June and the passenger terminal building will be expanded to double the existing terminal area

BIAL's new landscaping concept will have two main parts the heritage boulevard and the garden boulevard spread across 49 acres, which would give passengers at the airport the feel of the essence of Bangalore.

Speaking exclusively to MiD DAY, president of airport operations of BIAL, Hari Marar, explained the exciting project.

"The lush and vibrant landscaping is being developed to enhance the aesthetic value of the airport.

The up gradation of landscaping at the main access road of the airport is to provide a pleasant, refreshing and welcoming environment to visitors and passengers," Marar said.

He informed that the landscaping plan, phase I of which encompasses 49 acres, is spread over the shoulder area of the main access road from the Trumpet interchange right up to the second roundabout.

Fifty-six native varieties of plant species and trees will be used for the purpose. "Giving special importance to the environment and water conservation, the landscaping irrigation is through an automatic drip irrigation system," he added.

BIAL's expansion plan will commence in June and the passenger terminal building will be expanded to double the existing terminal area of 70,000 sq meters.

The project will take about 18 months for completion and with BIAL implementing the 'go green' mantra, the project is expected to restore Bangalore's green city title.
