Bangalore Development Authority suspends official who had been selling land illegally on basis of forged property papers

It took 13 years for Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) officials to expose a land scam involving C Muniraju, a first division assistant, who sold allotted sites illegally by fabricating property documents.

The scam came to light when Basappa, the deputy secretary of BDA, initiated an enquiry into an incident that eventually opened the can of worms.

KM Krishnamurthy came to the BDA office to collect papers to the plot allotted to him and discovered subsequently that the same plot had been allotted to another individual on basis of forged papers.

Basappa in his complaint with the Sheshadripuram police, sought criminal action against the officer who is believed to have forged the papers and the person who was allotted the land fraudulently.

"A BDA site situated at Koramangala fourth block (No 818) was allotted to KM Krishnamurthy in July 1987, who was also issued a possession certificate to the plot next year. The land was registered in 2007.

In the meantime, C Muniraju, a first division assistant, BDA, allegedly created fake documents in the name of Srivatsa Rangachary and helped him to get the site registered in his name.

It also emerged that Muniraju flouted several rules to abet the scam. BDA officials MiD DAY spoke to said that a departmental enquiry was instituted against Muniraju.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that Muniraju was involved in many such fraudulent deals, following which, the party decided to suspend him," said a BDA senior officer, who did not want to be named.

The BDA officials have handed over a set of documents to the Sheshadripuram police to corroborate Muniraju's role in various scams involving BDA land.

A case of forgery has been issued against Muniraju and Rangachary. Inspector Vijay Gopal refused to comment on the issue.
