Train services on Harbour Line were disrupted after an oil tanker got derailed near Kurla station at 12.30 pm, while changing tracks. This is the second such incident at the same junction in 15 days
Train services between Kurla and Mankhurd came to a standstill after the derailment and commuters were stranded on the platforms, and inside trains for several minutes, while many were also forced to walk on the tracks.

Sources said that the incident on Wednesday was similar to the derailment that occurred on August 15. “This was the same junction where another goods train had derailed earlier and an inquiry is still on. This is surely a lapse on the part of the maintenance department,” said a railway official from CR.
Officials added that initially the maintenance department claimed that there was nothing wrong with the tracks. However, the second incident has proven otherwise. The goods trains and oil tankers normally go towards Trombay yard changing tracks at Kurla at a speed of 15 kmph.
Wednesday’s incident resulted in the cancellation of 22 train services while many were running late by over 15 to 20 minutes.
Twelve wheels of a goods train got derailed. Railway officers rushed to the spot, after which the main line was cleared using a spare engine at about 1.20 pm.
An official at the spot said, “While the work was going on commuters got off onto the tracks.” Mukesh Nigam, divisional railway manager (Mumbai), said, “An investigation is on regarding the cause of derailment.”u00a0
