Flight delays tormented passengers on Thursday morning as fog again blinded the Indira Gandhi International Airport throwing air traffic out of gear for over eleven hours.

Flight delays tormented passengers on Thursday morning as fog again blinded the Indira Gandhi International Airport throwing air traffic out of gear for over eleven hours.

Chaos reigned at the airport as 200 flights were delayed and five flights diverted to Mumbai, Jaipur and Banglore. However, according airport New Year, there were no cancellations reported by airlines.

On Wednesday, 10 early morning flights were cancelled due to low passenger load and anticipation of fog by airlines. The fog started engulfing the airport at midnight and low visibility procedures were enforced at 1 am.
A total of 131 flights operated in low visibility conditions till noon on Thursday inclusive of 25 domestic arrivals, 36 domestic departures and 21 international arrivals, 19 international departures.

"The general visibility fell below 50 metres and runway visibility range (RVR) dipped to 125 metres, lower than the required minimum of 150 metres for the planes to take off. As a result most of the morning flights got delayed by 2-5 hours," an airport official said requesting anonymity.
