The offices of the Caste Verification Department, the Social Welfare Department’s hostels, the District Social Welfare Department Regional Commissioner Office, the Backward Caste Board and the Computer Training Centre will soon come under one roof of the Samajik Nyay Bhavan.
Not only will the move help the citizens greatly, but will also save on heavy rents being paid by the various departments.
Currently, 28 districts in the state have a Samajik Nyay Bhavan and the city is likely to get its own in the next year.
Social welfare officer Prabhakar Pardeshi said the budget for the proposed project is Rs 40 crore and the task of acquiring land for the purpose was the main challenge.
“Although we initially faced difficulties in getting the land in Yerawada, as it was under the green zone, we have succeeded in acquisition and project is likely to start next year.”
Pardeshi added that the department is spending crores on rent for its various offices. “The Regional Commissioner Office gives Rs 75,000 every month as rent to the PMC. Likewise, other offices that are located in various parts of the city are also spending heavy amount on rent. Therefore, the decision has been taken to bring all the offices to one premise,” Pardeshi said.
He also said that currently people had to run from one office to another for caste verification, but once the project takes shape, they would get all their work done under one roof. u00a0
