Airlines capitalise on Independence Day weekend with special offers

Airlines capitalise on Independence Day weekend with special offers

The Independence Day weekend seems to be doing well for the airlines. While only the national carrier came up with a discounted scheme for travel on August 15, all the other airlines are going packed with high prices in high demand.

The airlines that are running full for the weekend believe it to be one of those long rare weekends when the response has been overwhelming. However, Jet Airways went a step ahead and had launched schemes for three days (July 27 to July 29) for travel dates from August 15 onwards. The airline gave 30% discounted fares on the three-day #GrabYourFreedom offer. On the other side, the national carrier- Air India came up with an offer of giving away one free ticket to military personnel.

The airlines are running full for the coming weekend due to the long. An airline official said, “During such long weekends usually airlines do not come up with offers. However, offers might be given after the weekend is over in order to maintain the selling of tickets.” “On Independence Day national carrier Air India giving special offer to armed forces (Navy, Army &Air Force) personnel to free travel for the companion on its entire domestic route.


The passenger traveling with serving military personnel will have to pay only ticket taxes. Only one companion can valid of this offer. The companion must be traveling with military personnel. Offer started from today means august 5 to august 15 but traveling valid on 15th august on Independence Day only. The scheme is applicable only on economy tickets, said the Air India Spokesperson.

Air India has about 140 aircraft in its fleet and connects over 52 cities nationally, besides 24 cities in US, Europe, Australia, South East Asia and the Gulf with non-stop services.

Experts believed that the Air India coming up with the fares matching to that of Rajdhani Express’s AC II tier. Air India droping fares on four key routes--Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Chennai, Delhi-Kolkata and Delhi-Bengaluru -four hours before the departure of flights to these destinations has also made other airlines restricting themselves from high rising fare at last moment.”

However, when the national carried had launched the scheme it said that the scheme is aimed at providing relief to the passengers from last minute sky-rocketing fares and also to fill the vacant seats.A Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani AC II-Tier ticket costs Rs.2,870, while Delhi-Chennai Rs.3,905. The fare of second AC Rajdhani ticket for Delhi-Kolkata is Rs.2,890 and Rs.4,095 for Delhi-Bengaluru Rajdhani.
