The crime branch of the Delhi Police arrested Shahid Ahmed, Mohammed Anis, Nanhe Khan and Matloob Qureshi on Tuesday and seized five trucks in their possession.

The inter-state gang of autolifters was active for the last few years in Delhi and neighbouring states. .
Their accomplices used to collect and pass on the information about potential target vehicles that were stolen and later sold in other states.

"The kingpin of the gang, Shahid, turned an autolifter after a dispute with a truck driver. He stabbed the driver leading to a attempt to murder case against him," police sources said.

Shahid has masterminded over 75 trucks and tempos thefts from Delhi and delivered them to his gang member Nanhe and others, who arranged for the sale of the vehicles.

The police arrested Shahid on a tip off when he had come to Majnu Ka Tila in north Delhi to deliver a tempo.

"During interrogation, the four revealed that they had stolen vehicles from about 40 spots in Delhi. The gang used to dismantle old trucks into scrap and sold the new trucks after punching the engine and the chassis number of the old trucks. Shahid is involved in more than 30 criminal cases of robbery, attempt to murder, theft and Gangster Act," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Neeraj Thakur.
