Acting on a tip-off, FDA officials raided Mathura dairy in Paragon village and confiscated 5,715 kilograms of maltodextrin, an adulterant, worth rupees Rs 2.3 lakh.

“We received information that some wrongdoing was happening at the dairy, so we raided it and seized 5,000 kg of maltodextrin. This is used to maintain thickness and sweetness of the milk after its dilution with water. We strongly feel that the substance must have been used in adulterating milk,” FDA Assistant Commissioner (Food) Dilip Sangat said.

Officials said it became necessary to crack the whip against the diary as it supplies milk and various milk products to thousands of consumers in and around the village.

The crackdown
To clamp down on people operating milk adulteration rackets, FDA officials took milk samples from various areas and sent them for testing. u00a0“We have to check the for adulteration in various chains like milk sold by dairy owners to hospital, restaurants, eateries and citizens. We are taking random samples from these chains and sending them for laboratory testes to ascertain whether they are adulterated or not,” FDA Joint commissioner (FDA) Shashikant Kekare said. He added that FDA officials collected 26 samples in the city and forwarded them to laboratory. “Stringent action will be initiate against sellers whose samples test positive for adulteration,” Kekare said. u00a0 u00a0
