A senior police officer said five members of a family were standing by the roadside to watch fishing in an adjacent waterbody at around 5:30 am.

Suddenly a truck, moving at high speed, hit them and fell into the pond. The three victims were crushed under the wheels, the officer said.

Another member of the family was rushed to Malda Hospital with serious injuries. The truck driver and helper could not be traced.
