Around 3,000 students of University of Mumbai’s (MU) affiliated colleges may not get their degrees owing to their institutions’ failure in completing the admission process

Around 3,000 students of University of Mumbai’s (MU) affiliated colleges may not get their degrees owing to their institutions’ failure in completing the admission process.

Students migrating to MU from other universities need to furnish migration and eligibility certificates. MU provided provi­s­io­nal admissions to such students on the condition that their colleges would submit all documents within the first year.

It has now released a list of colleges that haven’t completed this process. It has warned that results of such students will be withheld if the process isn’t completed by December 15. A senior MU official said documents of 2,983 students admitted in 2012-15 still haven’t been submitted.

While students who stand to get affected are from a wide range of professional courses, it’s likely that those pursuing Bachelor of Mass Media, Bachelor of Business Management and Bachelor of Accounts and Finance will be hit the most as these courses see a large number of migrations from other universities.

Dr MA Khan, registrar, MU, levelled the blame at colleges’ doors. “We are considering giving them additional time.”
