Mumbai Sessions court on Saturday rejected the bail plea of the prime accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.

The Special Judge S D Tekale hearing Malegoan 2008 blast case rejected the bail plea of Sadhvi. The bail was filed mainly on the grounds of health of Sadhvi who is suffering from breast cancer.

Special Public prosecutor Avinash Rasal, on her health part, had argued that she was getting proper medical treatment from government hospitals.

Rasal further said, “The defense had argued that there was no control over the motor cycle which prosecution has alleged to have been provided by Sadhvi to the other accused, but we replied to the same by saying that there is no evidence that the motor cycle was sold to anyone, so in that case the owner will be held responsible.”

On the other evidence against Sadhvi, Rasal said, “There are witnesses regarding the conspiracy that was hatched in Jabalpur and Jalna, wherein Sadhvi had said that she will provide with two persons. The
judge has relied upon the same as prima facie case against Sadhvi. Also there are confession statements of three accused in the case which shows the involvement of Sadhvi in the conspiracy.”

Sadhvi was arrested on October 23, 2008, for hatching the conspiracy with others, which led to the September 29, 2008, blast at Malegaon in Nashik district in which six people died.

Sadhvi is charged with various provisions under the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the MCOCA.

At present, she is lodged in a Bhopal jail.
