Salem: Two women in advanced stages of pregnancy today gave birth to a baby girl and boy respectively in a toilet and an autorickshaw here today.

37-year-old Kavitha, already a mother of two girls, returned here from Coimbatore after visiting her husband, a labourer, along with her children when she suddenly developed labour pain at the bus stand.
She immediately rushed to a nearby toilet and delivered a baby girl, police said. She was rushed to the government hospital here in an ambulance along with the new born.
In the other incident, 32-year-old Parvathi was on her way to the government hospital with her husband in an autorickshaw when she gave birth to a baby boy in the vehicle itself even as it was entering the hospital complex.
The hospital staff immediately shifted her to the labour ward, police said.
