Three months after arriving in the city to complete his education, an 18-year-old boy was found hanging at the staff quarters of the St George Hospital, Fort, on Wednesday. Police said the deceased left no suicide note, and the post-mortem report ascertains the time of death between 2 to 3 am. The teenager identified as Balaji Madan Thackrey hails from Kapsi village in Loha taluka, Nanded, and was residing with a family friend Narendra Borlepawar (34), a clinical photographer who works at the hospital. Thackrey was found hanging from the ceiling fan by Borlepawar’s wife at 8 am.

Police said Borlepawar, who has been allotted a flat at the staff quarters resides with his wife and two children, had offered to put up the deceased at his home after he arrived in the city in February. At the time of the incident Borlepawar was undergoing medical treatment for severe appendicitis at the VIP suite at the hospital. “I have been in a considerable amount of pain for the last few days and had to be admitted. When I called my wife on Wednesday morning, she informed me that she found Thackrey hanging from the ceiling fan, following which she notified the police,” said Borlepawar.

“We are all in a state of shock. He never seemed depressed. Moreover, no suicide note was left behind, so we are unaware why he decided to take his life,” he said. “The boy used to sleep in a separate room at the flat. He was sent to the city by his father so that he could complete his education,” said a police sub-inspector, on condition of anonymity.

The teenager’s body was later shifted to state-run JJ Hospital where the post-mortem was conducted. A case of accidental death has been registered at the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg police station. Thackrey’s relatives collected his body from the hospital yesterday after which they proceeded to their native place to conduct the last rites.

Dr Jagdish Bhavani, medical superintendent at the hospital, said, “The unfortunate incident took place after Borlepawar was admitted to our hospital. The teenager used to also help the family in taking care of their young children. However, the reason behind him taking this drastic step is still unknown, as a suicide note was not found in the house.”u00a0
