Even as the team at Batra Hospital in Delhi successfully completed a 14-hour long surgery on Sita and Gita, conjoined twins from Bihar, hospital officials said that they would be open to looking into the case of another pair in waiting, Vani and Veena
A team of 28 doctors at Batra Hospital in New Delhi was part of the surgery led by paediatric surgeon Arvind Sabharwal, plastic surgeon Rohit Nayyar, urologist P Singh andu00a0 orthopaedic surgeons Dr Tucker and Dr Pawan Gurha. The surgery began at 7 am yesterday and was completed around 11 pm the same evening. Both children were stable.
"There were some complications as the twins were fused at the hip and share a common urinary and intestinal passage. They are young, but we still waited this long to reduce the complications," said Dr Sanjeev Bagai, CEO and pediatrician, Batra Hospital. Bagai added that the parents -- a daily wage earner, Subhash, and his wife Nirmala Mukhia -- were 'excited and humbled'. "The surgery's been a success," he beamed.
