In her letter to the additional director general of prisons, Shahida said, "My husband, who is a prisoner in Bangalore Central Jail, is being transferred to Pune where his life is in danger."
She added that Telgi's confessional statement before the magistrate connected him to people from Pune and other parts of Maharashtra and that shifting him back to Yerwada Jail would endanger his life.
Besides this, she said, "Telgi is suffering from a slew of ailments and his movements have been restricted to a wheelchair. He is undergoing treatment in Bangalore and shifting would hamper his treatment."
Shahida also cited a letter from the then inspector general of Bangalore Prison dated May 2010 stating that Telgi cannot be transferred to Pune since he has been convicted in cases related to Upparpet, Madivala, Yeshwanthpur and KR Market police station in Bangalore.
Meanwhile, prison authorities clarified that it was a legal procedure to seek details of legal actions against Telgi from across the state before he could be released on bail.
"We brought Telgi from Yerwada Jail to conduct trails in various cases. He would not be released from here, and hence will be sent back to the Pune prison where he was arrested and imprisoned," Chief Superintendent of Central Prison, Lakshmi Narayana said.
