A water processing plant in HSR Layout, Bommanhalli, was raided at 11.30 am by BBMP officials after the traders were found guilty of not having a trade licence.
Aqua-I, an A M Enterprise venture, supplied canned water to 500 consumers everyday. The lists of clients include BPOs, call centres, bakeries and homes in the area for a measly Rs 7 (20 litres). While the same container of a popular brand will cost Rs 70.
The BBMP discovered that the plant was operational under a fake Indian Standard Irrigation (ISI) certificate registered under another company's name.
B S Manjunath Reddy, chairman of the standing committee, who was at the raid this morning, said, "We gave them an earlier notice and asked them to get their trade licence renewed. But we found out that they never had one to begin with."
Rahman Khan, the owner, said, "They came here saying it was routine but they have created a mess. They came and accused us of being unhygienic." He added, "Someone has been spreading rumours about us.
We are less than a month old, and we have all the right documents." Though the initial reports of the water taken from the plant show that the water is clean and uncontaminated.
