Pitru Paksha, which is observed by Hindus to pay obeisance to the souls of those who have departed, comes to an end on Sunday.
Pitru Paksha is a 16 day long period when Hindus pay homage to their ancestors through prayers and food offerings.
The period falls in the lunar month of Bhadrapada beginning on the full moon day or the day after full moon.
In West Bengal, Mahalaya Amavasya marks the beginning of Navratri. It is believed that Goddess Durga descended on the earth on this day.
