Family in Nepal plane crash were on trip because of divorce order
A divorced couple and their two children, who were among the 22 people aboard the plane that crashed in Nepal on May 29, were on their yearly get-together trip, as per a court order. While the woman and the kids lived in Thane, her ex-husband lived in Odisha. The family, identified as Vaibhavi Bendre, 51, her ex-husband Ashok Kumar Tripathi, 54, their son Dhanush, 22, and daughter Ritika, 15, were on a 10-day vacation to Nepal when the incident happened.
Mumbai: 43-year-old motorist run over by taxi on Sea Link while trying to save kite
In a tragic accident, a 43-year-old man was killed in an accident after he stopped on the Bandra Worli Sea Link to save a kite, which had crashed into his car. As Amar Manish Jariwala picked up the injured bird, a kaali peeli rammed into him, and he died on the spot. Though devastated by the loss, the family does not want any action against the taxi driver, against whom a case has been registered by the Worli police.
No-honking day? What’s that, ask Mumbai motorists
As the ‘No Honk Day’ drive announced by Mumbai Commissioner of Police Sanjay Pandey kicked off on Wednesday (June 1), mid-day decided to see how this rule was being implemented. As per the drive, every Wednesday will be observed as No Honk Day, and those found violating it will face strict action. However, on the ground, the situation did not change much as most Mumbaikars were unaware of it and were shocked to learn that honking could attract fines. Motorists also shared that it was impossible to not honk in a crowded city like Mumbai where no one abides by the rules.
Mumbai: Three members of Kapole society board resign over corruption allegations
After mid-day reported about the accusations of corruption levelled against the office-bearers of Kapole Cooperative Housing Society (CHS), three members tendered their resignation, stating they do not want to be part of the committee that faces such grave allegations. Author Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi and three other residents had alleged irregularities in the conduct of the society office, and some members were accused of refusing to allow owners from accessing their own property papers.

As Covid-19 cases are seeing a rise, the 20-39 years age group is again making up for a majority of the new cases. Of the 3,962 cases registered between May 21 and June 1 in the city, 1,621 were from this age group. And, 920 of these were from those aged 30-39. Gender and age analysis shows that this is similar to the earlier waves. Youngsters and the working class are the most affected ones. The rate of hospitalisation, however, remains low as most patients are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.
