Eid al-Adha, a holy occasion was celebrated on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic or lunar calendar. Eid al-Adha is significant culturally and religiously because it remembers Ibrahim (Abraham)'s willingness to sacrifice his son in accordance to God's commandment.
The narrow path leading up to the Haji Ali Dargah, which was built in the 13th Century, was crowded by devouts visiting the shrine to offer their prayers.
Meanwhile, Mumbai's Makhdoom Ali Mahimi mosque in Mahim also saw a large turnout of worshippers.
Many people, after offering their prayers, were spotted standing alongside the coast and revelling with their near and dear ones.
A panoramic view of the Haji Ali Dargah showed vehicles passing through the magnanimous Mumbai Coastal Road and offered a view of the newly-inaugurated northbound carriageway.
After its inauguration by CM Shinde on June 10, the northbound carriageway of coastal road till Haji Ali interchange was thrown open to people; they can access it on weekdays between 7 am to 11 pm. On weekends, it is shut for public so the authorities can complete pending work.
