Mumbai and Palghar have been placed under a "yellow alert" for the next two days, indicating the need for precautionary measures due to the intense heat. Additionally, Thane has been issued a three-day heatwave warning starting from Saturday.
The high temperatures have been primarily observed in western and central regions of Maharashtra, as per IMD data.
Mumbai's Colaba observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 34.4 degrees Celsius, slightly above normal, while the Santacruz observatory recorded a higher maximum temperature of 38.1 degrees Celsius, indicating the intensity of the heatwave.
Other districts in Maharashtra, including Thane, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Kolhapur, Nanded, Palghar, Parbhani, Sangli, and Satara, also reported temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, exacerbating the heatwave conditions.
The rise in minimum temperatures is a cause for concern as it indicates warmer nights, affecting the overall comfort levels and posing health risks to residents. Districts like Kolhapur, Nanded, Nashik, and Sangli recorded significant increases in minimum temperatures, reflecting the severity of the heatwave during both day and night.
