These upgrades are crucial for accommodating the increasing number of passengers and enhancing overall railway infrastructure, said CR.
A 63-hour Special Block has been initiated at Thane station for the widening of Platforms 5 & 6. This step is vital for facilitating the installation of escalators and widening of foot-over-bridges (FOB) stairways to enhance passenger convenience and accessibility.
The placement of RCC BOX at Platform 5 was successfully completed, demonstrating efficient progress in the project. Machinery and materials were swiftly mobilised, ensuring seamless workflow and minimal disruption to railway operations.
Machinery, including a Poclain Excavator and a Roller, was loaded onto the Military Bogie Well Type (MBWT) rake, ensuring timely dispatch to the project site. The arrival of a BRN rake with filling material further accelerated the project's pace.
A dedicated team of 350 labourers, including officers and supervisors, is working round the clock to ensure the timely completion of the infrastructure upgrade works at Thane station.
Simultaneously, a 36-hour Special Block is underway at CSMT station for non-interlocking work in connection with the extension of Platforms 10 & 11. This includes the implementation of an advanced Electronic Interlocking signalling system to enhance rail safety and mobility.
Significant progress has been made with the completion of work on 65 points out of 75, 51 tracks out of 120, and 1 signal out of 60 by the afternoon of 1st Jun. This indicates efficient execution and adherence to project timelines.
The infrastructure upgrades at CSMT station are being carried out with the help of more than 250 highly skilled and technically competent staff members. Their expertise ensures the successful implementation of advanced signalling systems.
Central Railway's dedication to modernising railway infrastructure and ensuring passenger safety is evident through meticulous inspection of ongoing works and the adoption of advanced signalling systems.
Despite facing challenges such as scorching heat and record temperatures, several teams are working tirelessly to deliver these crucial upgrades.
The infrastructure upgrade projects are prioritised to be completed before the onset of the monsoon season, ensuring minimal disruption to railway services and passenger convenience during adverse weather conditions.
The widening of platforms, installation of escalators, and implementation of advanced signalling systems will enhance passenger convenience, accessibility, and overall travel experience at Thane and CSMT stations.
The adoption of advanced Electronic Interlocking signalling systems at CSMT station is a significant step towards improving railway safety, reducing the risk of accidents, and ensuring smooth operations.
Earlier this week, Central Railway formally announced the cancellation of a whopping 930 local train services; while several mail-express were short-terminated and short-originated from various stations such as Wadala, Dadar, Thane, Pune, Panvel, and Nashik.
