Siddique, who is also known for his glamourous Iftar parties, is the second big face of Congress from Mumbai to leave the party.
Siddique, in his social media post, wrote that he joined INC as a young teen and that he had a "significant journey lasting 48 years".
Today I resign from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party with immediate effect, he further wrote.
Without divulging details on the reason for his departure, he said that he has a lot to express but "some things are better left unsaid".
He also thanked those who had been a part of his nearly five-decade long journey as a Congress leader.
Baba Ziauddin Siddique, who was with Congress since 1977, held the post of Minister of State for Food & Civil Supplies, Labour and FDA 2004–08.
Siddique prior to his resignation was the chairperson & senior vice president of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee & Parliamentary Board of the party's state unit.
