The yellow alert was issued by IMD because of a low-pressure area formation over the east-central Arabian Sea off the Maharashtra coast.
Light to moderate rainfall is likely to continue till December 2. The unseasonal showers brought the maximum temperature down to 24 degree Celsius, eight degrees below normal, the IMD said.
As per reports, the intensity of rainfall will reduce on December 2. At 23.8 degrees Celsius, the minimum or the night temperature recorded on Wednesday was just a degree below the day temperature.
According to IMD, before December 1, 2021, the lowest day temperature in December was recorded on December 6, 2017, at 23.3 degrees Celsius when cyclone Ockhi passed by the Mumbai coast.
Mumbai last year witnessed the second coldest December day since 2010 when the mercury dipped to 27.6 degrees Celsius. With yesterday's incessant rains and massive drop in mercury, Wednesday became the second coldest day in Mumbai in a decade.
On December 6, 2017, Mumbai had received heavy December showers when 53.8 mm of rainfall was recorded in 24 hours, as Cyclone Ockhi passed by the city’s coast.
