Bennett Rebello murder case
On December 2, a suitcase filled with chopped body parts washed shore Mahim beach. After the police initiated the investigations, through the clothes found in it, the mysterious body was found to be of a Vakola-based musician, Bennett Rebello. Further investigations revealed that he was killed by his adopted daughter Aaradhya Patil, who earlier claimed to be 16-year-old in the beginning, and her 19-year-old boyfriend. When Patil's biological parents provided her birth-certificate in which her age was found to 18 years old, she was sent to a remand home.
Man harasses, stalks, sends lingerie to woman in Churchgate
A man was arrested for harassing, stalking, sending lewd messages demanding sexual favours from a 33-year-old gallerist from Churchgate. The man, identified as Pradosh Naik did not stop harassing the woman and her family even after being booked for committing the crime. Along with harassing, he even sent lingerie to the woman with a sexually explicit message. Naik was arrested in June but managed to secure an anticipatory bail. When he was brought to court, he denied meeting the woman and sending the parcels as he claimed he was in Goa when they were sent. The court rejected his anticipatory bail and ordered the police to question him thoroughly in this case.
Art director's body found in Virar
Art director Krishnendu Chouwdhury's body was found in a creek in Virar on August 14 after he went missing. Chouwdhury's friends Chinmoy Mandal and Mohammed Furkan Shaikh had registered the missing person complaint on August 8. According to the police, Shaikh allegedly killed Chouwdhury on August 7 with the help of his friends and dumped the body in the Virar creek. Shaikh had allegedly owed Chouwdhury some money over which the deceased had abused him a couple of times. An angry Shaikh called Chouwdhury on the pretext of returning his money last week but instead killed him. In order to misguide the police, Shaikh then left Chouwdhury's car in Charkop and took the dead body to Virar.
Woman kills married man who had an affair with her daughter
A 48-year-old woman and three of her relatives were booked for abducting and killing a 38-year-old married man who was in a relationship with her 18-year-old daughter. Police said , the family had abducted the man, strangulated him to death and dumped his body on December 20 near Shahpur. According to the police, Babu Shettiyar, who had a criminal record and the 18-year-old girl were in a relationship for the past four years. The teenager's family had warned Shettiyar several times and threatened him with consequences.
Colaba occult murder
A three-year-old girl was flung out of the seventh of an apartment building in Colaba in September. The deceased, Shanaya Hathiramani was thrown by the accused, identified Anil Chugani, who owns the flat where the incident happened. Further investigations revealed that the accused, who was the victim's father's friend, was practicing occult and was looking to kill Sanaya and her twin sister, to 'reverse a spell cast on him earlier by his former colleague' in when he was working in Casablanca, Morocco. As part of the probe, the police also contacted his wife, who said that his behaviour was unpredictable, and she was on the verge of separating from him.
Human flesh found in a drain in Virar
In a case where human flesh pieces were found in a drain of a building in Virar, the Arnala police detained a 42-year-old man in February, identified as Pintoo Sharma and brought to Virar from Mumbai suburbs. When questioned, he confessed of killing Ganesh Kalodkar,58 by smashing his head following a heated argument. He cut his body into pieces and flushed them down the toilet. According to the police, Sharma said that he was upset with Kalodkar for delaying payment of a loan of over Rs. 1 lakh.
Ashram caretaker assault, burns child's hand with candlestick as punishment for mischief
The caretaker of an Ashram in Vasai was allegedly booked by the Waliv police for assaulting and burning a 6-year-old child with a candlestick in December. On the complaint of the victim’s mother, the Waliv police registered the case yesterday and began the investigation. When she went to meet her children, aged 6 and 12 years, she noticed the burn marks on their hands. When asked, he told her that one of the sisters who look after the children in the ashram has done this act. The child told her that, when they would do any mischief, she would burn both hands with candles. Hearing this, she approached the police. The caretakers have been booked under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
Spurned lover stabs woman after asking her hand in marriage
A youth rejected by a woman three years back tried to convince her again to marry him, but stabbed her and her elder sister after she refused to accept his proposal. The incident happened at Shimpoli in Borivli east. According to police, Atul Kanojia, 21, fell in love with Namrata Nate, 21, three years back and sent a marriage proposal to her parents, to which they refused. In November, Namrata had stepped out for a walk when Kanojia approached her and asked her hand in marriage again. When she refused, he stabbed her arms. Her elder sister, Ankita, 23, came running to save her but he attacked her too. The parents, who had also rushed out of the house hearing the chaos, caught hold of Kanojia but as they were tending to their daughters, he fled away. The police later registered an FIR and nabbed Kanojia. They booked him under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder).
Govandi teacher's Murder
A 30-year-old teacher, Aisha Husiyae was stabbed to death by her 12-year-old student for unknown reasons in September. The woman was teaching in a school managed by Aisha Education Trust, which was run by her. Her family told the police that in her final moments, the victim had taken the name of the accused's 19-year-old sister, who also taught briefly at her school. After a series of speculations, it was learned that the boy's family disappeared without a trace after failing to attending the hearing of the case at the Juvenile Justice Court.
Man kills wife for serving small portion of mutton
A 37-year-old woman from Jui-Kamothe was set ablaze by her husband after she allegedly served him a small portion of mutton. According to the police, on December 4, while having dinner, the woman's husband got annoyed as she served him less quantity of mutton.In an inebriated state, he set her on fire after pouring kerosene on her. The children alerted th neighbours who rushed the victim to Dr DY Patil hospital in Nerul. The next day, she was shifted to Sion hospital. On December 9, she told police her husband set her on fire in anger, after which she succumbed to her injuries that day.
Man kills nephew to avenge brother's ill-treatment
Naushad Ansari (22), a zari worker, was arrested in January for allegedly murdering his 7-year-old nephew and slitting his throat with a beer bottle as the child’s parents treated him with disrespect. Ansari, who lived with the boy’s family in Deonar, alleged that they would take away all his money without providing him with proper food and also heaped insults on him. According to the police, he decided to take revenge by targeting the child," said a police officer. The boy was reported missing on January 26 after which his body was found at a parking lot near the Freeway at Govandi the following morning.
Mayank Tutorials owner murdered
Mayank Mandot, owner of Mayank Tutorial, was stabbed to death by ex-staffer, Ganesh Pawar in September. The incident occurred at Shivshakti heights, Raigad Chowk in Ghatkopar East after Mayank finished his classes for the day. Pawar then argued with Mayank regarding payment and sudden sacking from the job. Pawar and Mayank had a heated argument after which the former attacked the latter with a sharp weapon.
School principal throws acid on student
The principal of a school in Kanjurmarg threw acid on a 16-year-old girl in December after she complained about a teacher. According to the girl's father, who filed the police complaint in this matter, said that the principal flung acid on his daughter while three others held her. He alleged the principal and others attacked his daughter as they bore a grudge against her for filing a police complaint against a schoolteacher who had punished her in the past. He rushed to the spot after his daughter told him the incident over a phone, and took her to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar and later to Sion Hospital, from where she was discharged after initial treatment.
Woman kills son's wife as she was not happy with their marriage
A woman surrendered before the Vasai police after she allegedly killed her 30-year-old daughter-in-law in her sleep by hitting her with a clay planter on her head. The incident happened in December when her son and husband had gone for their morning walk when a 48-year-old woman, identified as Anandi Mane killed her son's wife, identified as Ria as she was not happy with her son's marriage. The deceased and her husband had moved to the US three years ago, which angered Anandi. They had returned with their six-month daughter to the city a week before the incident. After surrendering, the woman was admitted to a hospital as she had an overdose of medicines before coming to the police station.
Man kills daughter for not wanting her to marry man from another community
A man was arrested a day after his 22-year-old daughter's headless body was found cut into three parts in Kalyan. According to the police, the accused Arvind Tiwari, 47, a resident of Titwala had killed his eldest daughter Princy, 22, as he did not want her to marry a man from another community. The accused had stuffed the body parts in a suitcase and abandoned the bag in an autorickshaw. The report said he had hired the autorickshaw with the intention of dumping the body at an isolated place, but he fled the spot after the driver found something suspicious.
