Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday spoke to newly-crowned chess world champion D Gukesh over phone and congratulated him for the "marvellous achievement that inspired countless young hearts". Chennai-based Grandmaster Gukesh on Thursday became the youngest world chess champion at 18 years after beating title-holder Ding Liren of China in the 14th and last game of the title showdown in Singapore.

Mumbai News LIVE Updates: Court grants interim bail to Elgar Parishad case accused Gorkhe to appear for law exam
More than four years after his arrest, a special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Mumbai on Friday granted interim bail to Sagar Gorkhe, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist link case, to appear for his law degree exam. The 22-day temporary bail was granted on a PR (personal recognizance) bond of Rs 50,000 and a surety of similar amount. In case the accused is unable to arrange a surety, he is allowed to furnish cash bail of Rs 25,000, the court noted and imposed a set of conditions on him.

Talking to reporters in Mumbai, Raut said Sharad Pawar toils hard even at the age of 84, but efforts were being made to engineer a split in his party. Mumbai News LIVE Updates: CID takes over probe into murder of sarpanch in Beed, local cop suspended
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Maharashtra Police has taken over the investigation of the murder of a sarpanch in Beed district while a police sub-inspector was suspended for dereliction of duty, officials said on Friday. Massajog village sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh was abducted from his car near a toll plaza on Monday and his body was found in Daithana area of Kej tehsil on the same day, following which three persons were arrested.
