Maharashtra minister Deepak Kesarkar on Monday said Germany needs four lakh trained personnel, including 10,000 in the first batch, which could provide a great opportunity to the youth of the state. Addressing reporters, the minister of school education said, "I have recently returned from Germany with encouraging news for Maharashtra`s youth. That country has requested nearly four lakh trained youths, which presents a significant employment opportunity for all of us. Germany has specifically requested 10,000 trained youths in the first batch." (PTI)

A recruitment drive to fill 17,471 constabulary posts in Maharashtra police set to begin on June 19 has received a massive 17.76 lakh applications, an official said on Monday. The recruitment drive is for posts of constables, drivers, band men, SRPF personnel and jail staff, the official said. "For 9,595 constable posts, we have got 8,22,984 applications, while for 1,686 constable driver posts, we have received 1,98,300 applications. For 1800 prison constable posts, 3,72,354 applications have been received. (PTI)

Mumbai News LIVE Updates: Man, wife, teen son die of electric shock in Pune`s Daund tehsil
A couple and their teenaged son were electrocuted in their tin shed house in Daund tehsil in Pune on Monday, a police official said. Sunil Bhalekar (44) received an electric shock when he was retrieving clothes hanging on a metal wire, while his son Parshuram (18) and wife Adika (37) were electrocuted trying to save him, the official said. "A cable supplying power to a neighbouring houses passes over the house of the deceased. Prima facie, it seems a rod supporting the cable transmitted electricity through the tin shed of the house, which triggered the incident," the official said. An accidental death case has been registered and further probe is underway, Yavat police station senior inspector Narayan Deshmukh said. (PTI)

Mumbai News LIVE Updates: `Drunk` engineering student crashes car into sleeping footpath dwellers, two dead, 7 injured
Two women were crushed to death on Monday after a car allegedly driven by a drunk engineering student in Dighori area of Nagpur ploughed into a group of people sleeping on a footpath, a police official said. Seven people, including four children, were injured in the accident that took place at 12:40am, the Wathoda police station official added. The official identified the deceased as Kantibai Gajod Bagdiya (42) and Sitaram Babulal Bagdiya (30), while the injured include Kavita Sitaram Bagdiya (28), Balku Sitaram Bagdiya (8), Hasina Sitaram Bagdiya (3), Sakina Sitaram Bagdiya (2), Hanuman Khajod Bagdiya (35) and Vikram Bhusha Hanuman Bagdiya (10).
