Efforts to concretise Mumbai`s roads faced hurdles after a few contracts were cancelled as the contractors failed to meet certain requirements, said Maharashtra industries minister Uday Samant on Wednesday. Replying to questions by members of legislative council (MLCs) Sunil Shinde and Vilas Potnis in the Upper House of the state legislature here, he said that in the first of the concretisation project, tenders for 910 roads, having a total length of 397 km, were floated.

Members of two inter-ministerial Central teams visited drought-hit villages in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Dharashiv districts in Maharashtra on Wednesday to review the situation, a local official said. The team that visited Dharashiv district comprised Moti Ram, an Assistant Commissioner in the Rural Development Ministry, Manoj Kumar, an Additional Secretary in the Disaster Management Department, and NITI Aayog research officer Shivcharan Meena, the official said.

Mumbai news live updates: Nine Bangladeshi nationals held in Mumbai for illegal stay
The Mumbai police have arrested nine Bangladeshi nationals from Sewri area in central part of the city for staying allegedly without valid documents, an official said on Wednesday. Unit-6 of the crime branch took the action against them, he said. "Based on specific information, the crime branch apprehended a man and a woman from Sewri earlier this month. The duo was found sending money to Bangladesh illegally on commission basis. During the probe, the police on Saturday apprehended two more Bangladeshis who were found staying illegally in Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road area in Sewri," the official said.
