The father of four-month-old Mangesh Puri, Anand Puri, who was injured in a cylinder blast in Worli, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning at Nair Hospital, said sources.

Anand, 27, was in a critical condition.

Vidya Puri, 25, and Vishnu Puri, 5, have been shifted to Kasturba Hospital and are reportedly stable.

After the alleged negligence led to the death of a four-month-old baby, three staff members of the Nair hospital – a doctor, an MBBS student and a nurse were suspended. The video in which the staff members are seen idling away while burn patients are groaning in pain, went viral. The BMC appointed an external committee of four doctors to enquire into the incident. The committee is expected to submit a report on the probe in a week.
