Woman who attacked Malegaon blast accused found dead

A female goon with many names — Mumtaz Begum Rashid Sheikh alias Mamta Baljit Singh alias Tejkaur Alias Netain (53) — was found lying in pool of blood outside her home near Imambada, Azami Nagar, Malwani Gate No 7 at 5.30 am on Saturday.

The Malvani police have registered a case of murder under Section 302 of IPC against the unidentified accused. Over the years, several cases had been registered against the deceased, and she was imprisoned on several accounts. When she was in Byculla jail in 2009, she had attacked main accused of Malegaon blast, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur.


Externed (tadi par) by the police on three instances, in 1998, 2009 and 2015, she was barred from entering Mumbai and Thane. During this time, she had illegally entered the city three times and was booked under Section 142.

Apart from this she was having had three Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA) charges registered against her in 1999, 2005 and 2006. The list doesn’t end there — 13 cases of , trespassing, assault and a number of NC (non cognisable) cases were registered against her.

A senior police officer from Malvani Police station, on condition of anonymity, said, “A close relative of her son-in-law noticed the body and informed her daughter who reached the spot and later approached the police. On reaching the spot, the police noted that someone had attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon.

She was taken to Shatabdi Hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.” A case has been registered under Section 302 (Murder) against the unidentified accused. So far, more than 40 people have been detained for questioning by the police.
