COVID-19 cases in the city and the state increased again on Friday with increased testing.

COVID-19 cases in the city and the state increased again on Friday with increased testing. For the last four days, the number of cases in the city was less due to lesser tests. On Thursday, the number of tests rose to 16,428, out of which 494 tests turned positive. Earlier, the number of tests had been between 11,000 and 14,000.


The state, on the other hand, recorded 56 deaths, out of which 29 were reported in Pune circle. Although the city recorded more cases, the number of deaths remained low. The city’s Test Positivity Rate (TPR) — positive cases among 100 tests — on Friday was 3 per cent, higher than the 2.6 per cent on Saturday and Sunday.


Among the eight deaths, all patients had co-morbidities, two were aged between 40 and 60 years and six patients were aged above 60 years. Meanwhile, 589 patients recovered and the recovery rate stabilised at 94 per cent.


There are 5,417 active patients in the city, out of which 403 are in Borivli, while Andheri/Vile Parle W, Kandivli, Malad and Andheri/Vile Parle E have more than 300 active patients each. There are 198 active containment zones in slums and 2,219 sealed buildings. 

The state recorded 2,771 new COVID cases, out of which 932 were reported in the MMR, including Mumbai. Thane city reported 104 cases and all other cities in MMR reported less than 100 patients each. Pune circle registered 611 and Nagpur registered 445 cases each. Out of 56 deaths, 12 deaths were reported in the MMR (including Mumbai) and 29 deaths were reported in Pune circle.

The cumulative number of cases in the state is 20.21 lakh and the recovery rate of the state has stabilised at 95.3 per cent. On the other hand, 2,613 patients recovered and active patients reduced to 43,000 in the state. Of the total active patients, there are 13,000 each in MMR and Pune circle.
