Five members of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS’s) Vahatuk Sena were held for smashing the windscreen of a luxury bus parked outside a five-star hotel to ferry players for Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.

MNS workers claimed they didn’t do anything wrong and demanded that the transportation contract to ferry the players should only be given to people from Maharashtra. The political party workers pasted posters of their demands on the windscreen of the IPL team Delhi Capital’s bus after leaving cracks on it.
The members of the transportation agency that received the contract for the IPL team contacted Vahatuk Sena members on March 16 after the incident was reported, claims MNS. According to the agency, they received the contract only after bidding lower compared with other agencies.
MNS-Vahatuk Sena’s President Sanjay Naik, who was present at the spot, said, “After yesterday’s incident, few of the transportation agency members contacted us. It is not their fault but we demand that either the state government should give transportation contracts to Maharashtra-based agencies or the agency to whom they have given the contract to should use the buses and manpower from Maharashtra only. We are yet to decide our next course of action.”
Naik, added, “As several buses and smaller vehicles have been brought from Delhi, we had no other option but to take such action. We have written to government officials, transport and environment ministers, and transport commissioners in the past to demand that the contracts related to IPL work should be given to Maharashtra-based agencies only as it is happening in Mumbai. Earlier, the government had assured that the IPL will help generate employment opportunities in Maharashtra. But if the contract is given to Delhi-based agencies, how will they generate employment in Maharashtra.”
Police have arrested five senior MNS-VS leaders including Prashant Gandhi, Santosh Jadhav, Bharmu Nandurkar, and they will be produced before a Magistrate Court later on Wednesday.
