Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Vijay Wadettiwar, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde urging to resolve the caste-based politics in Maharashtra.

In the letter, Vijay Wadettiwar also demanded to conduct a caste-based census in the state.

"Maharashtra has history, we demand caste-based census in the state for OBC and other castes. I always support Manoj Jarane Patil (Maratha reservation activist) but on the other side, OBCs are also on strike. I request the central government to look into this matter and resolve caste-based politics in Maharashtra," Vijay Wadettiwar told ANI.

"State government is trying to divide people based on caste. Our Rahul Gandhi also demanded on several occasions to conduct caste-based census in states," the Congress leader said.

Vijay Wadettiwar called Ujjwal Nikam's reappointment "politics" after he was again appointed as Special Public Prosecutor of Maharashtra's Mahayuti government following his defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.

BJP had fielded Nikam from Mumbai North Central seat against Congress' Varsha Gaikwad. Nikam lost to Varsha by more than 16,000 votes.

"People know about the role of government. This government have no sympathy for people they only want to do politics," Vijay Wadettiwar said.

Last week, Vijay Wadettiwar took a jibe at the BJP and said that wherever Lord Ram had laid his foot, the BJP lost from that place in the Lok Sabha polls, reported ANI.

He was reacting to the controversy over Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Indresh Kumar's remark calling BJP arrogant, which restricted it to 240 and later retracting from his statement and saying that he used the term for Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.

Vijay Wadettiwar said, "Indresh Kumar said what came into his heart. He may have been under pressure, so he retracted his statement. Everyone in the county knows who is arrogant and who said that we will cross 400 seats in Lok Sabha polls. They said to give votes to those who brought Lord Ram but can anyone bring Lord Ram? They are so arrogant that they feel that they themselves are gods and even bigger than god," reported ANI.

He further said that god felt that if they had to be taught a lesson, it should be from Ayodhya and they lost in places like Ayodhya and Rameswaram.

"Wherever Lord Ram laid his foot, the BJP lost from there. It is a crushing defeat for them. They faced defeat, which is a verdict against their policies and gimmicks," Vijay Wadettiwar added, reported ANI.
