As the voters go to the polls today at the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) elections, a controversial video involving Shiv Sena leader Nitin Patil has surfaced on the Internet and gone viral on social networking sites. In the grab, the husband of Kalyan and Dombivli Mayor Kalyani Patil is seen drinking with five friends while watching two girls dance to a Bhojpuri song.

The video, it is alleged, was shot at a small hotel in the Shahapur area along the Nashik-Mumbai Highway. “We fought against dance bars and our government got it banned. How are people expected to follow a leader who behaves like this? What can you expect from others?” said Sachin Pote, Congress District President of Kalyan, while Narendra Pawar, in charge of BJP’s poll campaign in Kalyan condemned the behaviour, calling it unacceptable.

On the other hand, some Sena leaders claimed they were being targeted, and defended the act. “Aren’t dance bars functioning in the city? So, if our leaders visited one, what’s wrong with that?”
he questioned. Kalyani, who is contesting the elections from Jari Mari Nagar in Kalyan East, has denied the allegations.

“My husband’s face has been morphed into the video. He would never do such a thing.” The results for the elections will be declared tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Bombay High Court advocate KP Mahajan on Saturday wrote a letter to KDMC commissioner and election-in-charge, E Ravendiran, alleging that state cabinet minister Eknath Shinde and other members of the Shiv Sena party had violated election code of conduct. Shinde and his party members were seen till late night in KDMC region among people, which he called act of influencing voters.

Parties clash
Last night, a case was registered against Shiv Sena Ulhasnagar chief Rajendra Singh, alias Bhullar Maharaj, along with sitting corporator Ganesh Jadhav, for allegedly ramming his car into a BJP candidate’s brother-in-law.

An officer from Mahatma Phule Police Station in Kalyan said, “Kalyan BJP candidate Gudia Singh, who is contesting on a BJP ticket from Ram Baug area, saw some miscreants pull down her campaign posters.

Her brother-in-law Ritesh followed the car to an isolated spot on Ulhasnagar Road, where the miscreants allegedly rammed their vehicle into him.” Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited Ritesh, who suffered 18 fractures, in the hospital on Saturday.
